The only true "High Def" movies are available on HD DVD or Blu Ray (and on High Def TV channels). An Upconverting or Upscaling DVD player will make regular DVDs look better, but it will not put them in true HD. An XBox add-on will allow you to play HD-DVDs, so you'll be able to watch any movie release on HD-DVD in High Def. It will not play Blu Rays, which are also HD movies. If your 8mm movies are on video tape, then the easiest way to transfer them to dvd is via a stand-alone dvd recorder. If your 8mm movies are on film, then you'll need to have it done by a specialized film transfer service center....

No they can't, I think you should make sure your Dvds are clean and free from scratches,if they are then you should buy a cleaning disc & run it....
